Whenever we go to Idaho the kids love to go with Grandpa Jay to see his horses. On our last trip it rained almost the entire time, so we just watched from the car as Grandpa fed some of his horses. There was a brand new baby colt that was especially fun to watch!

Fun in Idaho
Last week we were able to make a trip up to Idaho for Jake's graduation and Spencer's baby blessing. Chuck was able to stay for the weekend, then he had to go to Evanston, WY to do a job. The kids and I were able to stay for a whole week. We had a great time visiting with family - Lindsey was once again in tears when it was time to say good-bye!
CONGRATULATIONS JAKE!

Lindsey and Ryland were amazed by how late Jake can sleep in every morning. They decided to see how many paper airplanes they could land on him before he woke up. There were quite a few!
After Spencer's baby blessing we all had dinner at Grandma's house.
We were able to visit with Grandma Ruth for quite a while : )

Lindsey and Ryland especially love being able to play with cousins. We spent several days with Sara and William and Hannah. One day we were able to go to Pocatello to Outer Limits Fun Zone. The kids all had fun playing on the playground and in the arcade area.

Biking Fun
One of the best things about Summer is biking!
Last week Chuck, Lindsey, and Ryland rode the trail in Eagle Mountain from our house all the way to the Chevron gas station in the Ranches and back! That's 12 miles round trip! The goal was to ride all the way to the gas station, then have me pick them up in the truck. They decided to bike back, too - until they came across a nasty head wind. By the time I met up with them, they were already at the elementary school so Chuck and Ryland finished the ride home and Lindsey chose to drive home with me instead of finishing the last 2 miles. We are so proud of both kids! For Pony Express Days here in Eagle Mountain they held a family 10K bike ride this morning. Chuck and Ryland were able to participate in it. They rode to the charter school in the Ranches and back (not quite to the Chevron, but close)! Ryland got a medal for completing it! He crashed on the way home and scraped up his face by his right eye pretty badly. Poor kid! It was a great teaching opportunity to stress the importance of helmets! His was scratched up quite a bit.
Today was also the opening day for the new bike park! It is a great area for BMX bikers or mountain bikers! There are trails to ride on, bridges to cross, dirt hills and jumps, etc. I think this is going to be a new favorite place for Chuck and Ryland!

This is America Program
All of the 3rd graders from Lindsey's school and one other elementary school put on a "This is America" performance at the Eagle Mountain Silver Lake Ampitheater. They worked on the songs all year during their music class. It was a great program!

Preschool Graduation and 3rd Grade Readers Theater
It's that time of year again ... School is almost out so it's time for class programs and graduations ... Unfortunately, Ryland's preschool graduation and Lindsey's class's "Reader's Theater" were on the same night! Chuck took Ryland to his preschool graduation and I went to see Lindsey's performance. Lindsey and I left as soon as her portion was done and raced to a nearby park to see Ryland. Luckily, Ryland's graduation started late so we were able to see the whole thing!
Lindsey's class did a short performance of the "Librarian from the Black Lagoon". Lindsey played the librarian, Mrs. Beamster. Doesn't she make a cute librarian? : )

Christmas Day Emergency Room Visit - OUCH!
It seems that we are at the InstaCare every year either the day before or the day after Christmas with Ryland (usually it's ear infections). This year we were at the emergency room with Lindsey on Christmas Day!
Lindsey had just painted her fingernails and was coming across the room to show them to me when she suddenly yelled and started crying saying that she stepped on a toothpick (we had all been snacking on little smokies). I looked at her foot and it looked like there was a small piece of a toothpick stuck between her toes. When I tried brushing it away, it didn't budge ... then I noticed a small piece of a broken toothpick on the floor and realized that the remainder of the broken toothpick was inside her foot! It had gone in horizontally between her big toe and the one next to it! Chuck tried pulling the toothpick out with tweezers. He could pull it a little ways out, and then her muscles would just pull it back in (like pulling a bit on a rubberband). He then tried to get a better hold on the toothpick by using a pair of his pliers. They didn't work either. So ... he picked her up and we took her to the emergency room at the American Fork hospital.
They took her almost immediately in (we waited about 5 minutes). The doctor was really good with Lindsey and explained everything he was going to do to get the toothpick out. He had to give her a few shots between her toes (or maybe on them, I wasn't watching) which really hurt. After that, he was able to pull the toothpick right out (all 1-1/4 inches of it)! They then irrigated the puncture wound, filled it with neosporin and then put a little gauze on it. Throughout the whole ordeal (except the shots) Lindsey was very calm and was handling everything a whole lot better than I would have been able to. Once the toothpick was out, she was happy and smiling - We were so proud of how she handled the whole event! She says that the one good thing about getting a toothpick stuck in her foot is that she now trusts doctors a lot more. She was also happy about getting to keep the medical bracelet. She also got a new pair of socks and they gave her a huge syringe to use as a squirt gun! Merry Christmas!
She is still on a mega dose of antibiotics, but all signs of any trauma to her foot is gone. You can't even see a mark where the toothpick went in! The day after going to the ER Lindsey wrote a story about what happened:
"On Cristmas day I stept on a toothpik. It went strat in my foot! My dad coodent get it out so we went to the Dr's. They wer reelly nice. I got a bracelet! The dokter told me that he was goin to put the medicen on my foot. Wen they got back he told me that her wold put a teeny needl on both sides of it. It reely hert. After that he pulled it out! I only fellt it go out of my foot. It didn't hert at all! I am glad it is out. The End."
She also drew the following pictures ...
